Chaffee County is one of the 64 counties of the State of Colorado of the United States. The county population was 16,242 at U.S. Census 2000. The county seat is Salida.
History
Chaffee County was created by the Colorado legislature on February 10, 1879. It is known as the Heart of the Rockies. It was named for Jerome B. Chaffee, Colorado's first United States Senator.
